[And this time he doesn't light a candle in the chapel. Doing so would be implicit admission of his own doubt that she'd wake up.]

[She will. She's too goddamn alive to vanish like she never was.]

[Instead he treats this like an extended study and planning period. He can almost always be found in the library or on the deck, ready heavy, dusty tomes on demonology.]

[Scott pauses, like maybe he's listening to Cassel's heart beat and trying not to. Spoiler: this is exactly what he's doing.]

What kind of experience?

[For a second he almost sounds angry. Almost sounds dangerous. Just for a second.]

I don't know what you think the rules are in the warden club, if you think we just sit around and have tea and chitchat about our inmates' deepest darkest secrets like it's the latest episode of The Young and the Restless, but if my warden had gone around telling everybody what I'd done for no reason other than they were curious? I'd never have trusted him again.

[He leans back, drumming his fingers on the table.]

If she decides it's your business to know, she'll tell you herself.

[He listens. He hears that note, and listens harder. And when Cassel finishes, he lifts his hands off the table, a vague gesture of placation and submission.]

[Silently, but for the beating of his heart, he regards Scott. There's still something fierce in his eyes, though it's receded behind the coldness for the most part.]

[Eventually:]

Did you ask her if you could help her?

[That earns a guilty little look, and Scott nods - not to say he has, but in understanding.]

At least you get it. Some wardens wouldn't.

[He leans back in his chair with a begrudging nod.]

What I'd do if I were you is tell her that - you know - you have experience with demons. That you want to help her. And if you want to tell me, too, you can. But you don't have to.

[Scott is good at taking advice. He likes direction and suggestion. He likes having something to work off of.]
