The pewter's what's making him sick. He has lead poisoning.

And how was he getting pewter?

He's been leaving it in his stomach for forever. I think he tried to get some here by himself. I found him chewing on screws a while ago.

It makes things better for a while, but then he leaves it, doesn't burn it all away, so he can use it in case someone attacks him.

Anyway. I made more for him, because he was really sick and it helped for a while. I don't want to do that anymore.

Good. Does your warden know about this? [It's not... really accusatory? Because Charles is frankly more irritated with Zane for hiding this.]

Yeah, he does. I'm in Zero right now and I told him, he's right here.

I made him more, too. [He lists them like he's reading from an encyclopedia:] Pewter, iron, steel, zinc, brass. Duralumin.

[Again, a slight pause before the last one, and he's tentative when he says it.]

Not unless she fixates on him directly. She did on me, and she killed me, but even then it was only once, so.
