[The first thing Cassel does - after a really solid lunch and a long shower - is get down to the gym. He doesn't know what's happened to Mindy, but it seems like he's on his own here for a little while. So he meanders through the gym equipment, cleaning, re-organizing, and very obviously brooding.]

[She's a little shook up by the last flood but she's grinning automatically to see him, happy all the same. Though she didn't mean to say that last part, the 'after all'. She wasn't even thinking it. It just slipped.]

[Well, he's making this private so fast.]

"After all"? [Explain. He has the sinking feeling he knows what she meant already, but he wants to hear it from her.]

I, uhhh. [Fuck, what did she just do? First she looks confused, but then her face just falls.]

Nothing, I guess. I was just...scared. That's all. What if you didn't wake up?

I wasn't gonna leave you.

[Logically he knows he can't control that. The Admiral could kick him out and he'd never be able to come back. But he wants to be able to control whether he leaves or not. He doesn't want to abandon her.]

I know you wouldn't. [She swallows though, smile vanishing. Her eyes are sad and scared even as she's fighting against it.]

I know you wouldn't, on purpose. But that doesn't always stop people from getting taken away.

. . . Yeah.

[He knows that, too. Logically. Just like she knows logically that he wouldn't leave on purpose.]

[But on purpose doesn't have anything to do with it.]

[He clenches his fists, deliberately doesn't hit the wall. Doesn't move at all, actually. Just breathes out.]

I didn't go. Okay? I'm here.

But I get it. I get being scared.

I haven't had stuff to be scared about for awhile, Cassel.

I thought I was getting better at it.

[He's silent for a little while, lets the quiet settle over both of them, though it's itchy and uncomfortable and almost smothering. He needs the time to think, to think and just be, until something comes to him. Until he understands--]

What did you do while I was out? What did you do when you were scared and I wasn't there?

[How did she cope, he means; how did she survive one minute to the next, not knowing what the future would hold. Because how she did that means everything.]

Umm. [She tries to think - except for the flood stuff, there wasn't too much that happened to shake her up. But...] I talked to my other friends, mostly. A lot of them are really good at doing that thing where -- they act all strong as you cry on their shoulder.

[Steve, obviously. Allison too. Lydia, Stiles...even Mindy, in her own way.]

I missed you, though. There's - been a lot of stuff on my mind. That maybe we should talk about.

[These are good coping strategies, and he's glad she has them. But then she says she missed him, that they should talk, and he goes a little cold. He can talk about the good stuff later, if she wants to talk about the bad stuff now.]

You know I'm listening.

[She laughs a little, the sound all spontaneous and a little wrong.]

Man, I should have been taking notes or something. All the shit I thought of while you weren't around.

[He doesn't react - not visibly, anyway - just focuses on her, unblinking, through the video feed.]
