[The first thing Cassel does - after a really solid lunch and a long shower - is get down to the gym. He doesn't know what's happened to Mindy, but it seems like he's on his own here for a little while. So he meanders through the gym equipment, cleaning, re-organizing, and very obviously brooding.]

I'm not going to let it go.

Sometimes this place sends you messages.

Cassel, I don't need a pep talk and even if I did? You don't have any room or right to try and talk about this with me.

You spent your whole life wanting to be a worker and now that you are one, you're special. But that's not what it's like being an emotion worker because people look at you the way you look at your mother. And the one person in our world who didn't and saw who I was, you took away from me.

You don't get to have this conversation with me.

[He grimaces at the mention of Barron. He knows, he knows - but at the same time he doesn't know, will never know the way Daneca knows. There's no fixing it.]

[That doesn't mean he thinks he's wrong, though.]

So you're just never going to talk about it. Even though that's why you're here, and you still haven't gotten paired up, and it's just as bad as it ever was. You're just gonna hide forever, even from the people who don't give a shit.

And when you go back home, what then?

It won't matter anymore.

[Which in its own way is a lie. Of course it will matter. Making it go away doesn't make it so it never was. But Daneca wants to believe that it will be enough.]

You can't actually believe that. I'm the one who lies to himself. Not you.

[Daneca scoffs. What does he think she's been doing all these years that she's pretended not to be a worker? Does he think it didn't take telling herself over and over again that she was fine? That was she was normal? That no one would ever find out?]

[If she changes herself, if she can make this deal? Then it won't be a lie anymore.]

I do believe that. It might be a lie, it might not be. But it's better than the alternative.

The alternative being having to actually live with yourself?

[Nope. She's done.]

[Daneca promptly hangs right the heckie up on Cassel without so much as another word to him.]

[Get out, Cassel.]
